Founder member of the “Ensamble de Percusión Costa Rica-UNED”, Percussionist of the National Symphonic Orchestra of Costa Rica
William was born in Turrialba, Costa Rica. At age 8, he began his musical studies with his father. Graduated from the Instituto Nacional de Música (National Musical Institute) where he studied with the Lic. Bismarck Fernández. Also, studied at the Universidad de Costa Rica (University of Costa Rica) with the M.M. Fernando Meza. In 1991, attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, in Massachusetts, USA. where he was taught by Professor Thomas Gauger (Principal Percussionist of the Boston Symphony) and was part of the Young Artists Orchestra. Also, in 1995 he attended the Sewanne Summer Music Center, in Tennesse, USA, where he studied with Franck Shaffer. Since, 1994 he is a Percussionist of the National Symphonic Orchestra of Costa Rica; having performed in several countries such as: Spain, Panamá, Guatemala, United States of America, Germany, Austria and Japan. He also works as a percussion professor in the “Conservatory Castella”, where he has excelled as a composer and arranger in productions of Theater, Modern Dance and Folk Music, which were presented at the National and International Arts Festival. In addition, he owns a Company named “Eventos Musicales R & C, S.A.” which produces musical and professional dance shows for different kind of events. This company also imports and sells musical instruments and all types of musical accessories.
